In October 2023, CD Projekt teamed up with Anonymous Content to create a live-action project in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
Fast forward to November 26, CD Projekt shared that this project is still in its early stages but has made some progress since last year. They’re not yet showing it to any streaming platforms or studios, but that might change within the next year. As for money, CD Projekt is only covering the initial costs, and not the entire production. “We would not be funding the whole shooting of the live-action project. That is not in the plan,” they said. The early stages won’t cost as much as the full show.
Anonymous Content has made cool stuff like True Detective and Mr. Robot. CD Projekt is working with David Levine, who helped make Game of Thrones happen back in his HBO days. Last October, they were searching for a writer to craft a story for this Cyberpunk project, whether it’s a movie or a series.
On the anime side of things, a new Cyberpunk anime is still in the making. This was first mentioned back in September 2024. We still don’t know if it’ll be a sequel or something different from Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
Sometimes, people just love diving into the unknown and seeing what surprises await them.
Meanwhile, a new Cyberpunk 2077 game, codenamed Orion, is being developed. Though the original game had a rocky start when it launched in December 2020, it’s now one of the best-selling games ever, with over 30 million copies sold. Plus, its expansion, Phantom Liberty, has sold more than 8 million copies.
And let’s not forget, CD Projekt is also hard at work on The Witcher 4, which has now moved into full production.
