Shortly after Casey Hudson’s studio shut down, Mac Walters’ new project hit a roadblock too.
Mac, who left BioWare in 2023 after two decades, started Worlds Untold, but now he’s hit pause on the studio’s activities while searching for a fresh collaborator for their upcoming game.
It seems something’s up with NetEase, the company that was supposed to support Worlds Untold financially. They were previously praised by Walters for their shared enthusiasm and the freedom they offered. More details can be found here.
In a heartfelt message, Walters shared, “This was not a decision we made lightly–it’s been a deeply personal journey, and we’re all so proud of everything this team has built together. In the meantime, our incredible team members will be exploring new opportunities.” He added how thankful he was for the support from everyone.
The journey isn’t over, though. Walters assured fans, “This isn’t goodbye,” and hinted at exciting things on the horizon.
“We look forward to sharing the next chapter with you when the time is right,” he promised.
Launched in 2023, Worlds Untold aimed to create thrilling action-adventure games with rich stories and worlds, dreaming big about endless possibilities for their franchises.
The team included talents like Sotaro Tojima from Halo and Metal Gear Solid, Elizabeth Lehtonen from Dragon Age, and Ramil Sunga from BioWare, making it quite the powerhouse.
Meanwhile, Casey Hudson’s Humanoid Origin couldn’t keep going due to some unexpected money issues.
