In December, when Season 14 kicks off for Overwatch 2, Blizzard is planning to reintroduce 6v6 matches with a couple of experiments.
Aaron Keller, who directs Overwatch 2, shared details about these 6v6 trials on the game’s website. The first test is set for the opening week of Season 14, which should start around December 10. This trial will include team setups where each role is represented by at least one player but not exceeding three per role. Later in the season, they’ll test out the classic 2-2-2 setup with some tweaks.
Keller mentioned these tests are designed to gauge how much players like bigger teams and to explore ways of changing things without repeating past mistakes. He once doubted that both 5v5 and 6v6 could coexist, but now he’s considering it.
Fans often wonder if changes like these will make the game better or just more complicated.
The idea of bringing back 6v6 was first discussed back in July. At the same time, Overwatch 2 just started Season 13, introducing a Spellbinder event and major updates to Sombra. Plus, there’s a spooky Halloween mode called Junkenstein’s Laboratory available until November 4.
There’s also been talk about an Overwatch mobile game, though it’s unclear if it’s still in the works. For more insights, you might want to check out GameSpot’s review of Overwatch 2.
