PlayStation 30th Anniversary: Nostalgic PS5 Themes & The Cranberries

-

Sony is celebrating PlayStation’s 30th birthday with some cool stuff for PS5 users.

They’re bringing out a special video that looks back at the biggest games on their consoles, from the past to now. It talks about different themes like justice and fantasy, and it wraps up with a peek at Bloodborne, highlighting the word “persistence.” The clip mostly shows off newer games like Horizon, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Gran Turismo 7, but there’s also a nod to older hits like Batman: Arkham Knight and Crash Bandicoot. The background music is Dreams by The Cranberries.

PS5 owners can switch up their console’s look with old-school themes from past PlayStation systems. You can pick themes inspired by the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4, with each one bringing back memories of those consoles. For instance, the PS1 theme has a bit of the original gray box at the top of the screen, while the PS2 theme brings back the menu screen’s 3D blocks.

People love how the PS5 now starts up with sounds from the very first PlayStation.

Sony has even more surprises up its sleeve, like game discounts and a contest where winners get 30 months of PS Plus. They’ve also put out some limited-edition PS5 consoles, PS5 Pro, and other PlayStation accessories. And if you haven’t checked it out yet, this month’s PS Plus games are It Takes Two, Temtem, and Aliens: Dark Descent.
