PlayStation Portal is adding cloud streaming, a long-awaited feature, for its handheld remote play device.
This new feature is a game-changer for the Portal. Before, you needed a strong connection to your PS5 at home, but now, PlayStation Plus Premium users can stream PS5 games directly from the cloud, just like Xbox Cloud Gaming works for Game Pass Ultimate folks. No console needed!
In the beta version, you can play certain PS5 games from the PS Plus catalog like Dave the Diver, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. But, you can’t stream games you’ve bought from the PS Store yet.
Streaming quality goes up to 1080p at 60fps. For 1080p, you need at least 13 Mbps, and for 720p, you need 7 Mbps. If you want to try the beta, and you have a PS Plus Premium account, just turn on “Cloud Streaming (Beta)” in the settings of your Portal.
Fans think this makes gaming so much cooler!
“PS Portal was an ambitious product for us, and we have been delighted by the positive response from our fans and to see that our vision has resonated with the community,” shared Sony in their PlayStation Blog. Even though it was tough to find one at first, it’s getting easier to buy now.
