Inin Games, along with Ys Net, has taken over the publishing duties for Shenmue 3 from Deep Silver.
They expressed their enthusiasm, stating, “Inin Games is excited to shepherd Shenmue 3 into its next phase,” and explained this partnership signifies a fresh start for Shenmue 3, with Inin Games teaming up with Ys Net to respect the series’ history while making it more available to fans globally.
What exactly Inin Games and Ys Net have planned remains a mystery, but there’s speculation that Shenmue 3 might eventually make its way to new platforms like Xbox or Switch. Since 2019, Sony has kept it a PlayStation exclusive by supporting its development.
Back in 2022, Yu Suzuki, the mind behind Shenmue, mentioned he would aim to make Shenmue 4 more user-friendly if he got the chance to create it. Even though Shenmue 3 wraps up with a cliffhanger, he suggested that a sequel could explore a totally different storyline. Earlier this year, fans of the series went as far as buying a brief 15-second ad in Times Square to rally for Shenmue 4, causing a buzz on Twitter.
We all really want Shenmue 4 to happen, don’t we?
Currently, Shenmue 3 can be played on both PS4 and PC. GameSpot reviewed it and said, “Unfortunately, while it’s fascinating as a weird curiosity from a long-gone era of gaming, it’s simply not that fun to actually play.”
