Sledgehammer Games Leading 2027 Call of Duty Development

-

Microsoft is reportedly forming a special team at Activision to shape the future of Call of Duty.

There’s buzz that Sledgehammer Games might take charge of Call of Duty’s 2027 release, following Infinity Ward’s game in 2026, which some think might be Modern Warfare 4. TheGhostOfHope, a known leaker with a good track record on Call of Duty news, hints that Sledgehammer’s project could be Advanced Warfare 2 or perhaps something entirely different.

Since Activision rolls out a new Call of Duty every year, their smaller studios often juggle multiple projects to keep up. Sledgehammer Games has both supported other studios and led their own projects, like the 2023 release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Black Ops 6, which came out last month, broke records for the series, Activision says. Thanks to its availability on Game Pass, consoles, and PC, it saw the most players, hours, and matches ever in its first 30 days. Plus, it introduced new stuff like DLC that lets you play as a shark. Ranked Play for Black Ops 6 also kicked off recently, offering top players the chance to compete using the same settings as the official esports league.
