Sniper Elite Battle Royale Canceled Due to Funding Loss

-

A Sniper Elite game that was supposed to be a battle-royale got canceled just three months after its announcement.

According to Insider Gaming, Tencent decided not to fund the game anymore, possibly because Sony’s live-service FPS Concord didn’t do well. The big bosses at Rebellion hinted that Tencent might be nervous about these types of games after Concord’s failure, which even caused Firewalk Studios to close down.

Called Project Archipelago, or Sniper Island, this game was going to have teams of three snipers fighting to be the last ones left. They even did some early tests in August, soon after the game was told to everyone.

People sometimes get really excited about new games, hoping they’ll be fun and awesome.

The folks at Rebellion haven’t said anything yet, but if they do, GameSpot will let us know. Luckily, nobody lost their job because of the game’s cancellation. Everyone who was working on it is now busy with other things, like Sniper Elite: Resistance, which is the next big game coming out in January.

In Sniper Elite: Resistance, players will sneak into France during World War 2 as part of the French resistance. Besides the main story, there will be a 16-player mode and a three-player survival game. The Axis Invasion mode is back too, where you can join or fight against enemy players in a high-stakes sniper showdown.
