Saber Interactive, the team behind Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, plans to stop custom mods from being used in public online matches because they cause too many problems with the game servers.
When December’s big update arrives, players who use mods can’t join others in PvE Operations or PvP Eternal War modes. However, mods can still be used in private Operation games, and they’ll be allowed in custom Eternal War lobbies once those are available.
On Steam, Dmitriy Grigorenko, who directs the game, mentioned how much Saber appreciates mods and the creativity they bring, calling them “great” and important for the game’s future.
However, to keep the game running smoothly for everyone, the changes are necessary because mods have been causing server troubles and even messing up save files for players without mods.
Even though mods won’t be in public matches, Saber wants to make modding simpler by giving modders better access to the game’s system and sharing some of their own tools.
Space Marine 2 has been doing really well, selling over 4 million copies. A recent update added a new difficulty level and mission to Operations mode but upset fans with some balance changes, which Saber later fixed after hearing complaints.
Fans sometimes just want things to work without any hiccups.
If you’re curious about the next part of Space Marine 2’s story, look out for the Amazon Prime series Secret Level, which will continue the tale.
