Vote in Fortnite for The Game Awards with Virtual Geoff Keighley

-

On December 12, The Game Awards will celebrate the top games of 2024, and Fortnite fans can cast their vote for a special category right inside the game.

Studio 568 has crafted a unique Fortnite island specifically for this occasion, where players can choose their favorite island for the title of Best Fortnite Island of 2024. Geoff Keighley will make an appearance in the game as a virtual character, thanks to Epic’s MetaHuman technology, after traveling to England to create his digital twin. You can check out how realistic it looks in the video below.

This event, called The Game Awards Vote in Fortnite, invites players to explore ten islands made by creators, with voting open until December 11 at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET. The winner will be revealed during the awards show.

There’s a special Fortnite map for The Game Awards, too, where you can test your shooting skills in a fun target arena. Each round gives you stronger weapons, and there are leaderboards for both rounds and sessions. To join the fun, use this code: 0853-1358-8532.

We think it’s super cool to see how technology is changing the way we experience events.

Geoff Keighley mentioned that this voting event is “just a prototype” for the future of The Game Awards. He dreams of a time when people can see a new game announcement and instantly jump into a demo. “Imagine a day when we can announce a new game, and then the screen opens and you can actually jump into that game to play a quick demo!” he said.

This year’s top prize, Game of the Year, has six contenders: Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Be sure to check out all the nominees and categories listed below.

Aside from the awards, there will also be news on new games and updates on ones we already know. Keep an eye on GameSpot for the latest announcements!
